Frequently Asked Questions
We know that reaching out for mental health support can feel like a big step. Below you’ll find answers to the questions we hear most often — so you can feel confident and informed before booking your first session.
Getting Started
What happens during a free consultation?
Your free 15-minute consultation is a low-pressure conversation with one of our therapists. We’ll ask a few questions about what brings you in, answer any questions you have, and help match you with the right therapist. There’s no commitment required — it’s simply a chance to see if we’re a good fit.
How do I know which therapist is right for me?
Our intake process is designed to match you thoughtfully. After your consultation, we consider your goals, preferred therapy style, schedule, insurance, and any specific preferences (such as therapist gender or cultural background). You’re also welcome to switch therapists at any time — finding the right fit matters most.
Do I need a referral to start therapy?
No referral is needed. You can contact us directly to schedule a free consultation. If you’re using insurance, some plans may require a referral — we recommend checking with your insurer beforehand, and our team is happy to help clarify.
How long does it take to get an appointment?
We typically schedule new clients within one to two weeks of their initial consultation. If you have an urgent need, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you sooner.
Services & Therapy
What types of therapy do you offer?
We offer a wide range of evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), EMDR for trauma, mindfulness-based approaches, and more. Our therapists tailor their approach to your individual needs rather than using a one-size-fits-all method.
Do you offer in-person and virtual sessions?
Yes — we offer both in-person sessions at our Chicago office (3000 N Halsted Suite 803) and secure telehealth sessions via video. Many clients appreciate the flexibility of choosing based on their schedule, comfort level, or location.
Do you offer couples, family, or group therapy?
Yes. We provide individual therapy, couples therapy, family therapy, child and adolescent therapy, and group therapy. Each modality is led by therapists with specialized training in that area. Visit our Services page for a full list.
What conditions and concerns do you treat?
Our therapists work with a broad range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, PTSD and trauma, OCD, ADHD, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, grief and loss, relationship challenges, life transitions, and more. If you’re unsure whether we can help, reach out — we’ll be honest with you.
Fees & Insurance
Do you accept insurance?
Yes, we accept several insurance plans. We recommend calling the member services number on the back of your insurance card to verify your mental health benefits before your first session. Our administrative team is also happy to assist you in understanding your coverage.
What is your session fee if I'm paying out of pocket?
Our session fees vary by therapist and service type. Please contact us directly for current rates. We believe cost should not be a barrier to care and are happy to discuss options that work for your situation.
Do you offer a sliding scale or reduced fees?
We have a limited number of reduced-fee slots available for clients who demonstrate financial need. Please mention this during your consultation and we will do our best to accommodate you.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session. Late cancellations or no-shows may be subject to a fee. We understand that life happens — if something urgent comes up, please reach out as soon as possible.
Privacy & Confidentiality
Is everything I share in therapy confidential?
Yes. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. What you share stays between you and your therapist, with a few legally required exceptions: if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or if a court orders disclosure. Your therapist will explain these limits clearly in your first session.
Is telehealth therapy secure and private?
Absolutely. We use HIPAA-compliant video platforms to ensure your sessions are private and secure. We recommend finding a quiet, private space for your telehealth sessions to get the most out of your time.
Will my employer or family know I'm in therapy?
No. Your participation in therapy is completely confidential. We will not share any information with your employer, family members, or anyone else without your written consent.
What to Expect
What should I expect in my first session?
Your first session is primarily about getting to know each other. Your therapist will ask about your background, what brings you to therapy, your goals, and any relevant history. It’s a collaborative conversation — you set the pace. You don’t need to share anything you’re not ready to discuss.
How long does therapy typically last?
The length of therapy varies widely depending on your goals and needs. Some clients benefit from a focused short-term approach (8–12 sessions), while others find ongoing support more helpful. You and your therapist will regularly review your progress and adjust the plan together.
How often will I need to come to sessions?
Most clients start with weekly sessions, which allows for consistent momentum and relationship-building. As you progress, sessions may shift to bi-weekly or monthly. Your therapist will work with your schedule and goals to find the right cadence.
What if I don't feel like therapy is working?
It’s completely normal to have sessions that feel less productive, especially early on. We encourage open communication with your therapist — sharing what’s working and what isn’t is part of the process. If you feel the fit isn’t right, we’ll help connect you with another therapist on our team.
